Herbs and Spices

And when we say we’re going to give you our full A to Z of Nepalese herbs and spices, that’s what we deliver. Okay so we’re short on a few letters – X is a bit problematic for example – but on the whole we’ve got them covered…

  • Ajowan Seeds
  • Asafetida
  • Bay Leaves
  • Cardamom, both Black Pods and Green Pods
  • Cilantro or fresh coriander
  • Cinnamon
  • Cloves
  • Coriander Seeds
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Fennel Seeds
  • Fenugreek Seeds
  • Ginger
  • Himalayan Herb Jimbu
  • Mustard Seeds
  • Nigella Seeds
  • Nutmeg & Mace
  • Peppercorns
  • Poppy Seeds
  • Radish Seeds
  • Red Pepper and Cayenne Pepper
  • Saffron
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Nepal Pepper
  • Turmeric

Now, you may be familiar with a vast majority of these herbs and spices.

But there are a couple of herbs and spices that are especially popular in Nepalese cuisine:

  • Himalayan Herb Jimbu

Most commonly used dried, this native Nepalese herb combines the popular tastes and smells of onions and chives to deliver its distinct flavour for typical use with vegetables and meats.

  • Nepal Pepper

Nepal pepper, sometimes called Sichuan pepper, is a common ingredient and spice in Asian cuisine. Unlike other peppers such as the black, white or chili peppers, the Nepal pepper is known for its faint lemony flavouring that provides a welcome taste on your palette. It’s perfect to taste before you sample any hotter chilies.
